Design your life, or life will design you

I know from being someone officially diagnosed with "ADHD" plans are what I could definitely benefit from. In fact, although I have known about "writing down your goals" and viewing them daily for many years, I have always kinda just kept my goals in my head. This has allowed me to get distracted and sometimes lose focus on what is important to me. I've gone off course because of this. I'm currently in the process of writing down a vision for my life, my values and large and small goals that line up with my vision/values. I do of course believe that the Holy Spirit is helping me in this area. I believe that God gave us a mind to think and plan and I know I feel much more confident and happy when I set out on a plan. Honestly, It's been the times of my life when I would pray daily "Lord, what's your will?" "lead me today Lord." that I felt most confused. The bible says that the steps of a righteous man are ordered by the Lord, so He is leading me, I don't have to pray it, I know it, because He is faithful to His word. Goals are healthy and responsible. I trust in God's ultimate sovereignty, but to say that "God's in control" of everything is to not take responsibility for ones own success. Somehow God's sovereignty and mans responsibility is a mystery because they seem to contradict, yet the bible teaches both. If you want success in any area of your life, you have to take responsibility for success in these areas. God will not do it for you. In Joshua 1:8 it says "Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful." Notice it says "if you meditate on God's word, then you will be prosperous and successful? Also in Ecclesiastes 10:10 it says "Using a dull ax requires great strength, so sharpen the blade. That's the value of wisdom; it helps you succeed." It's your choice to get wisdom that will in turn, bring you success. One area of my goals includes a daily study of God's word. So necessary for true success. Other areas of my goals include self improvement. Eliminating bad habits, and developing good ones. Habits that lead to a successful life. Would you build a house without a plan? Think about how that would turn out. So why would one want to build a life without a plan? So I guess my point is that if you fail to plan your life, then life will plan you. If you don't know what kind of life you want, then any life will do. If you don't know where you are going, then any road will get you there. That sounds like a recipe for disaster to me. Write down your goals/plans then live into your plan. Based on wisdom, you and God design your life. Review your goals daily so you can stay on target. If you do this, you will join the minority, many who are very wealthy and successful. The better, more successful that you become, the more people you will be able to help. I know that I want to change the world in a positive way. I know that this begins with changing myself. You can't be something that you are not, but you can become something that you are not. God bless you! -Rob

Remove the plank

We may disagree on some things, but I do pray that God will give us both the wisdom we need to be successful in all that we do. I also pray that God would help us understand ourselves better. Most of the time, the problems we have in life aren't caused by others, they are actually created by what's within us. It has more to do with how we see ourselves and the world than the actual events that happen to us. Our perspective is more powerful than our reality. I believe that Jesus was teaching this in Matthew 7:3 when He discussed removing the plank from our own eye before trying to remove the spec of saw dust from our brothers eye. It's possible to not even realize that the problem actually lies within our own heart. We humans have a tendency to blame others when it really has more to do with our own faulty perspective. When we change our perspective, humble ourselves and quit judging others, this is when we can truly grow. It's not as much about what happens to us, but how we see it. Humbleness is the first step in clearing our own eye. When we are humble, we are able to see our own sin and need for God's grace. When we are humble, we remove our judgemental glasses and are able to see others through the eyes of grace and love also.

Maybe the greatest temptation

I think one of the greatest temptations can be the temptation to stop growing. Maybe to give up. DON'T GIVE UP! No matter how dark it may look sometimes. DON'T STOP GROWING!!! Say no to that temptation and yes to personal growth. We have the ability to choose to be better this time next year. WE CAN DO IT! Better in our health, our finances, our peace, our relationships. You see, it's not even all about us. We must choose to grow because others are relying on us. They are watching from the shadows, hoping that we will overcome. When we overcome with God, our lives will give them hope for their lives. Expect God to move on your behalf. He promises to give us wisdom on how to live if we ask Him. James 1:5. He will help us to manage our lives and to become better and more prosperous. It says in Psalms 35:37 that he desires your prosperity. Listen to God's small still voice. He speaks through many sources. It could be a friend, a coworker or even a magazine article. Although I do believe that the bible is the final authority on truth, I also understand that it doesn't cover every issue in life. It gives you a basic framework to work within but many things we need personal guidance on. We need wisdom to overcome. Listen for God and you will hear His guidance. He may be saying that you need to eat more vegetables and fruits for your health or to exercise more. He may be saying, do something kind for your daughter or wife today. He may say, give to the homeless man on the street. He does speak and will speak to you today if you listen to Him in faith! He will give you the wisdom and the strength to overcome the temptation to stop growing.

Self discipline is so important for success

Photobucket
In music, the silence between notes are just as important as the notes played. Imagine how a song would sound if there was no silence between notes. All the notes would be jumbled together. It would change from a song to just plain noise. As it is in music, so it is in your life. It's not only about what you do. Just as important, is what you don't do. Probably the most valuable skill you can learn in life, is the ability to say no to yourself. When you want something and yet are still able to walk away from it to protect your future. What you can walk away from now will determine what you will have in your future. Saying no to something is really saying yes to something else. For example, saying no to that doughnut, means saying yes to a healthy weight. Saying no to that drink of alcohol, means saying yes to clear minded decisions. Saying no to that wrong relationship in your present, is saying yes to that right relationship in your future. Saying no to excessive TV watching or video games, means saying yes to more time for other more productive things. Oh the power of a good decision. One good decision can revolutionize your life. Wars start and end over one decision. Nations rise and fall over one decision. Your decisions decide your prosperity. Not only your decisions on what to do, but also the decisions on what not to do. Your decisions to live your life according to a well thought out plan. Your decision to develop and cultivate self discipline in your life. Your decision to become a life long learner and value self improvement. There is always room to grow in these areas. Temptation to do the opposite will always be there. You will be tempted to stay the same and not grow. You simply must learn to say no regardless of how you feel in the moment. Your enemy will always be there, you simply must learn to fight. Choose to master self discipline and the rewards will be so great. The pain of self discipline weighs only ounces while the pain of regret weighs tons.

Choose To Be Excellent

eagle
Excellence is doing the right thing even when your boss is not looking. The Little things really do matter. Whatever you do, get better at it. You should not be at the same skill level this time next year. God helps the people who help themselves. Little steps to grow made faithfully will have a huge effect over time. What you do in secret, God will reward you openly. "Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not men, because you know that the Lord will reward everyone for whatever good he does, whether he is slave or free." Ephesians 6:7-8
